About

Hello hello!

Phoebe has always carried a love of both marine and terrestrial environments, as well as a dream of sailing around the world. Her interest in marine biology brought her south from Michigan, where she grew up, to Wilmington, NC in 2019.

Over those four years of college, many more passions were discovered and developed. Wilmington, NC provided a beautiful natural and social environment for growth; from sunrise swims and surf sessions to many walks in the woods around campus and hours laying in the grass at Greenfield Lake. And of course mornings of homework at Sundays, a very special café overlooking the Atlantic.

And now, captaining sailing charters and instructing keelboat courses at Wrightsville Performance Sailing!

This personal brand, Sea Earth Sail, came out of a realization that sailing helps combine several aspects of life - ocean, earth, sailing, and exploration. It started with a joint Instagram between my close friend Hannah and me, where we shared our adventures together. Now I am using it to show the face behind the work I do on the water. I am currently employed full-time by Wrightsville Performance Sailing and Soundside, two partnered businesses that got me to where I am now.

From Phoebe and Hannah:

We took our friends, Neal Lewis and Sam Shores, on a sail last spring, where they filmed this mini-documentary about us.

It beautifully captures our passion for sailing and shares why we do what we do!

  • I grew up on a small lake in Michigan, where I learned to sail at a young age. Every summer, I raced small boats and eventually became an instructor at my local yacht club. I moved down to Wilmington, NC in 2019 to attend UNCW, graduating with a double major in marine biology and French. I studied abroad in Toulouse for 4 months, and am nearly fluent in the language. I also hold a passion for coral reef conservation and hope to incorporate that into my sailing career. I’ve spent time diving and surveying reefs in Madagascar, and recently completed my senior honors thesis in an ex-situ coral lab at the UNCW Center for Marine Science. I was a member of the UNCW sailing team all four years, which is where I made many of my close friends in Wilmington.

Beyond sailing, I jump at every opportunity to be outdoors, whether that’s on the water, in the woods, camping on Masonboro, biking or hiking! I also spend my time cooking, working out, doing yoga, and reading. But above all, my favorite thing to do is travel! It’s been my goal since a young age to circumnavigate the globe by sailboat. Each place I visit teaches me something new. I love learning!
